Closure

Name: Closure
Rating: 8.4/10
Video:

I saw some footage about this game and I thought: "This game.... I like !!"
No, but seriously, this is the best game I have done on this show so far. And yes, I haven't been doing it for so long but still. This game is pretty epic. Whenever there is no light, there is no path.
Light needs to be shining on a surface in order to walk on it. I would defenitely buy it. It's only 10 dollars and you can play through 72 levels!

Gameplay: 8.5/10

It's great! This game is a true definition of indie games. It's original, creative and fun to play. I haven't played anything like it. And it runs pretty nicely! I do however get the feeling that when I figured out a scene and I fail just before the end, that I want to quit. This could be prevented by adding some kind of reward every once in a while when you finish a scene. Like every 5 scenes you get a new sort of *power* or *gift* that your character can use. This is just how I should do it. It's not my game so it's not me who has to decide these things. But I think that it would have improved the game a bit. (after all, I want this blog to be used as feedback for developers).
8.5/10 well done!

Graphics: 9/10

Again, original and creative. Yes, it did remind me of limbo, but that doesn't mean it's not creative or original! It actually feels more like an inverted version of limbo with more detail and dynamics. Every sprite has some kind of dynamic in them. Or it's glowing, or it's shining or it's moving. It's always doing something and I think that adds up.

Music: 7.5/10

The music wasn't that special, but it did set the mood. It was a dark environment but the music made it a little bit darker. It was done as it should, but it wasn't an important role to the game.

Chain Reaction

Name: Chain Reaction
Rating: 6.8/10

Video:

Another gem I found while searching the web for cool indie games.
This game is called Chain Reaction and I can say that there is probably no better title to fit this game. Not only is it the best title for this game, it is also the best way to describe it. Avoid the chain reactions going on around you and survive for as long as you can!

Gameplay: 7.1/10

There isn't much going on, but what is going on is good! The gameplay feels nice and it does what it needs to do without any problems. What I was missing though was the stimulation of continueing. I did feel that I wanted to continue after I died, but that feeling was gone too soon. They should have added a score function that actually standed out instead of the timer you vaguely see above the screen. Like I said in the video, I think it would be very succcesful on IOS devices like Iphone/Ipad or Android devices. If they add a score counter and if they  add scoreboards of course.

Music: 7.0/10

I haven't got much to say about the music and sound design. It did the job well. What did stand out was the sound effect of the chain reactions. The more it reacted, the higher the frequency was. That was a nice touch, but next to that there wasn't much going on really...

Graphics: 7.0/10

Again, like all the other things in this game. Even the graphics. It is simplistic, but well done.
There is a huge difference in simplistic and simple.

simplistic: It looks simple, but you can see that many choices were made on how to make it look interesting while looking simple.

simple: A lack of talent, dedication and/or experience. The last is definitely not the case!

How do I see this? For example, the animation of the disappearing squares looks professional. There is always something professional looking in simplistic games.

Psychosomnium

Name: Psychosomnium
Rating: 7.6/10

Video:

This one is really fun! I have no idea how to describe this game. I think that is one of the reasons that makes it so fun. It's nothing I've ever seen before. Although this is a small game, I think it has tons of potential. If one day a full version will be out, I will be one of the first to buy it.

Gameplay: 7.7/10

Very creative gameplay elements are what makes this game awesome. The constant and unexpected flow of the story keeps it fresh and addicting. At first it is difficult to find out what to do. No wait.. Not just at first. But through the whole game. Unlike most puzzle games you won't get used to this game because the gameplay changes all the time. There is 0 repetitiveness. Maybe it's just personal taste, but the dialogue if a bit too much for me. That's why I gave it a 7.7 instand of an 8.5.

Graphics: 7.5/10

The graphics are simple, and in most cases that isn't a bad thing. And this is one of those cases!
The graphics fit well with the game. But just because the style is simple, that doesn't mean that you can't add detail. There are alot of ways to add detail. The best way to do it for a game like this, is to add more variation in graphics. Especially in the background. Since the background is one plain colour in this game. I'm not saying there should be a photo realistic landscape, but some light effects would have made a huge difference.

Music: 7.5/10

That nostalgic feeling I got when I started the game is something I haven't felt in a while. It made me go back to those awesome days where I would play pokemon blue for hours!
But when I passed through the main menu the game drastically changed. And it changed the mood from epic to soothing. Nice job on that!

Futuridium

Name: Futuridium
Overall Rating: 6.4/10

A basic arcade style, space game with one simple objective. Destroy the cubes! This, however, turns out to be a bit harder than it sounds...
Very basic but fun gaming experience, which doesn't last that long. You easily get bored after an hour of gameplay because you died again, or there isn't enough change through the game. But if you are looking for a small fun game to consume some of your time, then you should check it out.

Gameplay - 6.1/10

What could improve this game drastically would be the missing level selection function. If you get to level 3, you can restart from level 3. That had made the difference for me wether I would have bought it or not! As far as I know, the full version doesn't have this sort of function.
The difference of height between the ship and my viewpoint is a bit too big. Because of this it's hard to see when you are able to hit a cube and you have no idea if you are going to crash or not.

Graphics - 6.6/10

The graphics weren't bad, but I wasn't blown away either! They fit the game, that's true, but everything had the same kind of shader. Just a flat diffuse map and that's it. They could have made it alot better by adding some specular shaders. That way they stayed true to the arcade concept, while adding detail.

Music - 7.6/10

Although graphics and gameplay are the most important part of a game, music also has a big role to play. Not as big as graphics or gameplay of course, but music has the ability to add a little bit "mood" to the game that can make it more "complete". And the music in this game sure did that job.

Voids - Indie Game Review

Name: Voids
Overall Rating: 7.4/10

Video:

If you are looking for an arcade-style old school space game, then stop looking any further sir/madam. This is exactly the kind of game you want. In Voids you are the pilot of a spacecraft trying to hold back hordes of aliens. It has got a fresh/new feel to it while maintaining the old school arcade style.

Graphics - 7.8/10

The graphics sure look nice. There are alot of different types of space ships, with alot of different colours. Some of them have the same colour, which is quite deceptive at some times! The dynamic background with a bit of mist improve the overall quality of the look. But there were a few things that could have been improved. For instance, all the ship sprites are looking at you, no matter how fast you move, you are always in sight. And all the ship sprites are static. Yes they move around, but an increasing and decreasing glow could have improved the total picture alot.

Gameplay - 6.4/10

It really was loyal to the old school arcade genre. And it had some original and creative gameplay additions. But the additional gameplay wasn't enough for me. Yes it had some different elements in terms of gameplay, but there is still alot that could have been improved. Different gameplay modes apart from the story mode like survival or a time based game mode, where you need to get as much points as possible in a certain amount of time, could have made the game so much better.

Music - 8/10

The music is really nice done. I almost felt like I was in the arcade in 1991 playing pacman with my friends. The only thing that bothered me was that it was quite repetitive. Of course it changes over time, but the changes are minimal.

Stay tuned for more indie games!

First post

Hello indie game fans,

This blog will be all about reviewing, rating and providing feedback for indie games.
I want my youtube channel and this blog to be about providing feedback for indie game developers by playing their alpha releases, and I want it to be entertaining for the viewers.
I hope I can build a small community to discuss about indie games and what makes them so damn fun!

This is how I will be working:
- First I will record my first impression of the indie game and play it for a while.
-Then, I will upload it to my youtube account for the world to see.
-After that, I will go to my blog and write a review about it and rate it.

When I have a few dozens of subscribers I will use my video to generate some income. I will use that money to back indie game projects on Kickstarter.

If you don't know what kickstarter is, here is a link - Kickstarter

It's a website that connects creative people with the world. People can now fund projects they like, while getting something in return for their generosity. There are alot of great projects on there.

So, stay tuned for more,
